In 1951 I received and old radio from one of my customers on my paper route. It had the shortwave bands on it and that started my interest in radio. In 1952 I save up enough money from my paper route and bought my first Hallicrafter S40B from a radio shop in Highland, In. The proprietor's son was a ham and was a large help to me. As time passed my interest turned to photography. I did free lancing and worked as photographer for a newspaper. I also did studio work. It wasn't until 1986 that I got my novice license. Three months later I got my Tech and later worked my way up to extra. Soon my color lab gave way to amateur radio and my collection of antique radios and memorabilia grew. One of the most interesting part of amateur radio was when a group of us did fast scan tv. Some of the radios I have date back to the early 1900's.
My other interest since 1975 is propagating carnivorous plants, such as picture plants, venus fly traps, etc. As a member of the Carnivorous Plant Society. I have spent a lot of time in the swamps of Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana. Believe it or not there are carnivorous Plants growing in the wild in the State of Indiana.
My wife Pat has been the backbone assisting in my endeavors. She holds a general class license. Her call is n9fxt. She has a big job of keeping me in line.
